About Kate Carter

Kate Carter has been a freelance writer and photographer for 20 years. Her work has appeared in numerous regional magazines, including Vermont Magazine, Vermont Life, Ski Trax, and the Stowe Guide. She is the editor of Vermont Sports, a monthly magazine about outdoor adventure and recreation, a publication she founded in 1990.

"I enjoy writing, but photography is my real passion," says Kate. "When I'm thinking about shooting, I tend to look at my surroundings from inside my camera. Something might catch my eye, and immediately I've cropped and framed it in my mind and know instantly what lens I need to shoot what I've just seen."

Kate specializes in landscape and nature photography, and also shoots people, sports, products, and animals. She lives in Waterbury Center, Vermont, with two border collies and two cats. In addition to writing and photography, Kate enjoys year-round hiking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, gardening, knitting, cooking, and dog agility.
